ACADEMIC INTEGRITY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (AIEP)

Instructional integrity ensures academic transparency and enhances students’ ethical and moral values. Therefore, it is important for any institution to have a holistic integrity policy as well as the opportunity to develop skills and expertise to deal with the cases of plagiarism and copyright more professionally and ethically beyond the horizon of academia.

In order to provide a continuous learning opportunity to every student, AIEM- the Academic Integrity Enhancement program has been designed under the guidelines and supervision of expert professors (Dr. Sia Bee Chuan, Dr. Pok Wei Fong, and Dr. Omar Hamdan Mohammad Alkharabsheh) who have more than 20 years of professional experiences in teaching and administrating students in higher education instruction. To assess the impact and effectiveness of this program, an experimental research methodology has been designed which has further been studied by Mr. Mohammad Sozon, PhD Candidate, UTAR, Malaysia.

The aim of this program is to provide an easily accessible platform to the students so that they can learn and understand the meaning of academic integrity as well as they can professionally and ethically deal with plagiarism and copyright issues. This course may even manual college students develop the skills and capabilities needed to address the troubles that get up in academic writing, particularly handling copyright and plagiarism.

The aim of the experimental study is to see the behavioral changes of students upon completion of the integrity course in their academic and professional life.

Students have high expectations to earn excellent academic grades beyond their actual abilities. To achieve these goals, students often violate academic integrity. Educational institutions are facing a dilemma to detect and prevent students’ violations of academic integrity like cheating, and plagiarism. Therefore, the aim of this interactive course is to equip students with the abilities they need to effectively inquire, examine, discuss, and argue as they engage other people’s ideas.

Through this course, students will gain a deeper awareness of the proper approach to the integrity of outside sources in their writing as quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. This course also includes copyright, fair use, and appropriation. Students will have a thorough knowledge of the different complexities of academic integrity.
